I was born in New York but grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. I realized in high school that I was good in art. I went to the University of Tennessee and earned my Bachelors of Fine Arts and Masters in Art Education. While I was there I was a Lady Vol Rower. Unlike many college students, I watched the sun rise over the Cumberland River every morning because we had practice from 5:30-8:30 AM every day.

After college, I spent a year teaching at Oak Ridge High School and coaching rowing in Clinton, TN. I moved to Nashville and worked at JT Moore for three years. I came to Hillwood because I like the quality of work that high school students are capable of and because my sarcasm is lost on most middle school students. With a group of other Metro art teachers, I am a founding member of the Nashville Institute for Visual Arts Education which promotes professional development opportunities for Metro art teachers.

I am married, I have a baby, and try to run a marathon once a year.
