The administration of MNPS recognizes the value and importance of parental involvement at the school and district level. There are many opportunities to help students, teachers and schools succeed. Some schools in our District need more help than others because many of their students are identified as "at risk," and enrolled in "high risk" schools. These schools are required by Federal Law to seek parental involvement in order to meet Title 1 standards. For these schools, parents are key stakeholders in their success. One requirement for compliance to those standards is a development policy, born of parents, at the school level. The policy must contain input from parents and forwarded to the District's Parent Advisory Council (PAC). Once PAC reviews the policy, feedback is submitted to the District before becoming part of the District Standard Operating Procedure (DSOP). Whether your child's school is identified as a Title 1 school or not, all parents are invited to become involved in their child's school and provide feedback at every level:

One of the most important areas of parental involvement is having a voice in policy and procedure through parent groups at school and District levels. The vehicle for parents to have proactive input, give feedback and evaluate schools is through the parent/teacher organization (PTO, PTA, PTSA, etc) at each school. These organizations select two representatives and two alternates to represent their school cluster at the Cluster Parent Group (CPG). The representatives communicate their school's concerns and ideas to their CPG and report information learned at the CPG meeting back to their school.
