The Metropolitan Nashville Board of Public Education announces a vacancy in the following position:

Behavior Specialist
Department of Student Services
11 months – Grade 10 – Base hourly rate $18.89

Pending 2008-2009 Budget Approval

Employment Standards:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in special education, guidance and/or counseling, psychology, school administration or other related field. Five (5) years experience specializing in dealing with challenging behaviors in a variety of settings. Prefer applicant to have teacher certification in K-12. Evidence of successful working experience in high poverty settings. Preferred knowledge of PBS (Positive Behavior Support) or related field. Skilled in using data to make informed decisions regarding student behaviors. Valid Tennessee driver’s license and insured personal vehicle.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, collaborates with teachers to create classroom management systems that support learning goals and prevent behavior problems; model behavior management ideas or techniques; observe classroom teachers and monitors the effects of the classroom management systems in place; collects data on specific behaviors and provides research-based intervention strategies; collaborates with parents, teachers, community agencies and other school personnel to assess, create and monitor functional behavior plans for individual students; coordinates support services that support the student’s behavior and learning potential; conduct training sessions for teachers and other personnel in conflict management, C.P.I. COMP or other methods of effective intervention and behavior techniques; must be able to work a flexible schedule including after school hours and weekends.
