HILLWOOD HOSA OFFERS INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL AID
THROUGH PROJECT C.U.R.E.
Volunteering is a big part of what HOSA is all about and a chance to help provide medical aid to other countries seems just the right fit for the diverse group of students that comprise Hillwood's HOSA club. During fall break, on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, fifteen Hillwood HOSA members accompanied by two Hillwood National Honor Society members and HOSA advisors, Ms. Dina Starks and Ms. Jana Myrick, volunteered at the Nashville warehouse of Project C.U.R.E. Project C.U.R.E. delivers health and hope to children, women and men living in places of poverty and disease by identifying, soliciting, collecting, sorting and delivering medical supplies and services to countries in need around the world.
After a brief introduction to this non-profit organization, an impromptu visit from one of Project C.U.R.E.s major philanthropic volunteers on the importance of volunteerism, and a tour of the warehouse, HOSA members got to work preparing, sorting and packaging medical supplies for shipment to a village in South America that was in need of equipment and supplies. This was the second time that Hillwood HOSA spent a day volunteering at Project C.U.R.E. and it will probably not be the last. The joy that many of the students experience when they realize that this organization sends aid to their native countries is amazing. Plans are already being made to return for another day of volunteering in the spring. For more information about Project C.U.R.E. or how you can help, go to http://www.projectcure.org.
